This book is not about an unsustainable perfection or an oppressive legalism, but instead about the kind of simple devotion that sets us free. It is about the practical, day-to-day of the Christian devotional walk, lived in such a way that intimacy with Christ can shine through. It is a much welcomed book about intentional living and the rediscovery of disciplines that have skipped generations, but are now dusted off and brought back into the light for such a muddled time as this.

Clear, concise, biblical, and practical! Just what we have come to expect from Whitney's pen. Here is help for our increasingly complicated and cluttered lives. With uncanny ability the author draws a straight line from principle to practice and then shows us how to walk the line.

Ever since I began to read Simplify Your Spiritual Life I have been thinking about my own "simplicity and purity of devotion to Christ." Don Whitney has done an excellent job of helping me strengthen my devotion to the Lord in very practical ways. His writing is engaging and his points clear with a sound biblical basis. I highly recommend this book for individual study, group study, or devotional reading.

Finallya short, simple book packed with practical guidelines to develop a lifestyle of biblical spirituality without sacrificing substance or resorting to mysticism, legalism, or license. Simplify Your Spiritual Life fills a major void. If you practice even half of what Don Whitney recommends, your spiritual life will improve. Give this book a quick read, then go back and carefully read one chapter each day, pray over it, and implement it.

Dear Don,
I just received my copy of Simplify your Spiritual Life from NavPress. I have read a good deal of it and I wanted to let you know that it is wonderful. You have such a gift of writing books that are so helpful to the church of Jesus Christ. Every book that you have written has become an invaluable ministry tool for me as a pastor and this one will be no exception. This is a much-needed and wisdom-filled book. In our complex and frantic world, there is a crying need to simplify and prioritize, to move from trivial busyness to significant labor, to move from superficial contact to real fellowship. Don Whitney is your sure-footed guide from the second things” to the first things.” His timely, biblical and practical advice and counsel will do many an overtaxed and frazzled soul spiritual good. Take, read, learn and grow!

Just wanted to encourage you regarding Simplify Your Spiritual Life.
I have been teaching portions of it on Wednesday evenings, during our
mid-week prayer services. I just completed the "Simplifying and Prayer"
section. It has been a personal and corporate blessing. I will begin with
"Simplifying and Time" next Wednesday. We are having a great time in discussion
and teaching. God bless you for your writings and your commitment to
encouraging Christian growth.
As the title simply states, Whitney's counsel is direct and uncomplicated. With short, pithy essays he provides a wealth of suggestions for streamlining spiritual lives to usher in more quality and depth.
Each idea is both pertinent and worthy of pursuit as Christians seek to develop their knowledge of God for private and interpersonal development. Discussion topics include simplifying the principles of the Christian faith, developing patterns for understanding truth via meditation and Bible reading, and journaling.
Whether new believers or seasoned souls, readers will absorb countless benefits from this clearly inspired work.
No one questions whether life is complicated today. It’s just a fact that the more time-saving” devices we have, the more we are expected to do with our time. Enter Simplify Your Spiritual Life” by Donald S. Whitney. He sympathizes with fellow Christians who experience a spiritual life that is cluttered, has many diversions, and seems overwhelming. His goal for readers of this book is to simplify their spiritual lives, not by doing less, but Whitney says, we simplify to remove distractions from our pursuit of Christ.
In that effort, Whitney lays out the book by disciplines of a Christian, and offers suggestions on simplifying that area. For example, in the section on Prayer he distinguishes repetitive prayer from persistent prayer "talking to God is too great a privilege to settle for ‘vain repetitions’ when the Bible invites you to ‘pour out your heart before Him’ (Psalm 62:8)." Other topics include meditation, truth, journaling, time, and the heart. Each topic has small, 2-page chapters that present a specific thought about it, which makes for easy reading as well as absorbing the concepts bit-by-bit.
Whitney has written other books about living out the spiritual life including Spiritual Disciplines for the Christian Life, Ten Questions to Diagnose Your Spiritual Health, and How Can I Be Sure I’m a Christian?. What struck me most was the solid doctrines he promotes, insisting that as Christians we should judge any idea or principle using the Word as our authority. His advice is sound, not fashionable, and his encouragement is palpable throughout the volume. I would recommend this to a new believer (he spends much of the first part instructing what the gospel is and isn’t), and to a mature Christian who wants guidance in the daily living of our faith.

Greetings from Northern Ireland.
I am currently using "Simplify" along with my morning bible study time.
. . . I only wish I could have read something like it 15 years ago when
I first repented and believed in Jesus.

Since opening The Discerning Reader some three years ago, a couple of books by Don Whitney have consistently been our best sellers: Spiritual Disciplines for the Christian Life and Ten Questions to Diagnose Your Spiritual Health. Both books have played a major role helping a new generation of Christiansraised passively on television, fast-food and "let go/let God" theologybecome more active in pursuing a life of holiness.
But as anyone with a bit of wisdom knows, there is always a tendency to go to the other extreme. Even our spiritual disciplines can become so complicated that it seems we are missing the point . . . which we are. It is a real joy that Don has given us a wonderful new book to keep us balanced in this area. If you're feeling a bit spiritually exhausted, or just need to gain some fresh perspective, Don Whitney has some exceptional advice: keep it simple.
Simplify Your Spiritual Life is a thirst quenching glass of water on a summer's day in the Mojave Desert. In a complex, driven, and accelerated culture, Donald S. Whitney provides some Gospel hope. This book had a dramatic, reorienting and sanctifying effect on my personal disciplines. It makes my "must read every year" list, lest I lose the simplicity and devotion to Jesus Christ that the New Testament demands2 Cor. 11:3! Lets get simple.
